Mayor Williams Presents to America’s Rural Energy Coalition 2023 National Conference

On May 3rd, 2023, City of Jourdanton Mayor Robert Williams was a guest speaker at the America’s Rural Energy Coalition (AREC) 2023 National Conference in Southpointe Pennsylvania. He was one of two Mayors invited to offer a presentation.

According to the AREC website: “The purpose of the organization is to combine the experiences and resources from the multitude of rural communities where active oil and gas exploration and production is occurring. The goal being to use the combined strength of all the regions to bring attention and resources to the challenges and opportunities they face. By bringing together populations from across multiple states, we believe we can help build national interest, especially in urban America, in maintaining the energy independence we have achieved over the past few years. This rural-urban partnership will ultimately lead to advancing our primary goal – sustainable rural economic development.”

Mayor Williams’ topic presentation on May 3rd was entitled: “Developing Energy in Living Color- One Red, One Blue.”

Mayor Williams stated: “the invitation to present was an opportunity to offer an understanding to a national audience the importance of the oil and gas industry to our region, county and city. Secondly, it was a forum to showcase our city in a favorable and positive light.”

He added: “In order to help improve the quality of our streets- as identified in our 1991 Master Plan as being in desperate need of improvement - water and wastewater utility and Sports Complex we need for people to want to move here to our city to live and open businesses which will then help increase our sales tax, hotel motel tax and property taxes so as to be able to do all things that are in need of maintenance and improvement.”

He concluded by saying: “the invitation to ‘talk up’ our city as our ambassador was so important to him that without a second thought, he willingly paid for the travel expenses on ‘his own dime’. The ‘free’ opportunity to showcase the City of Jourdanton didn’t cost our taxpayers anything…"I paid for the trip myself- I am committed to moving forward!”
