[ARCHIVED] New Sign Ordinance

The Jourdanton City Council passed and approved a new sign ordinance on August 28, 2018. Ordinance No. 748 was properly published as required by Chapter 52 of the Local Government Code. Business entities and residents with signs need to review the ordinance to see if their sign complies with the new ordinance. Beginning November 1, 2018, the City will be contacting each business and individual whose signs do not comply with the new sign ordinance.

The City is allowing a grace period through January 31, 2019. The grace period allows time for the sign owner to make the necessary changes to make their sign compliant, to remove a non-compliant sign, or to install a compliant sign. Starting February 1, 2019, City staff will begin enforcing the new sign ordinance.

One of the major changes is that signs which require plastic interchangeable letters will not be allowed. This can easily be fixed by adding a door to the sign to keep the letters from blowing off. Another change is that scrolling LED and programmable electronic signs have requirements to meet, but are allowed. Furthermore, one will no longer have to seek a variance to install such a sign.

There are far too many changes is the sign ordinance to cover them in this article. If you have a question as to whether or not your sign complies with the new sign ordinance, please contact the Code Enforcement Office of the City of Jourdanton at 830-769-3589
